Christmas Is My Favorite Time Of Year…can Any Of You Share A Good Memory You Have From A Past Christmas?
I just love Christmas and I love hearing special memories that others had during Christmas. I will share one of my special memories….
My brother is in the USMC. The year that he graduated from boot camp was 2005. He graduated in August. He got to come back home for a couple of weeks then the USMC stationed him in North Carolina. They had already told him that he wouldn’t be coming home for Thanksgiving or Christmas. Well, Thanksgiving came and went. It was really hard not having him home. So Christmas came. I was missing my brother so much and I just couldn’t get into the holiday spirit. I didn’t put a tree up or any decorations. Well, just a few days before Christmas Eve, we get this call from him saying that he gets to come home. My brother’s favorite thing is a Christmas tree and I knew I had to put one up. My husband and I hadn’t even got our tree out of storage, so I went to the store and bought this tiny tree…it looked just like the Charlie Brown Christmas tree…lol. But that was all I could find. I bought some ornaments and I decorated it. My brother come home and when he saw that tree he laughed so hard. I told him what I did and he was so touched that I decorated a tree just for him.
So, if you have any good memories from Christmas share them with us.

When I was either 14 or 15, in late October my 10 year old dog disappeared. Just completely disappeared off the face of the earth.
On December 24th at about 3 A.M. I heard whining outside my bedroom window, I ran to the window, and this horribly matted, scrawny dirty dog was there crying. Without a coat I went out to see if there was anything I could do for this miserable creature, and it was my precious Jack.
Needless to say, after tons of tears, and a bowl of food and water and a bath, Jack and I had a beautiful Christmas together.
I know God answers prayers either that or he sent Jack back to me to get some relief from my non stop plea for Jacks safe return.
we’d got the tree up and spent 3 hours decorating it, then when I went to go get the adapter for the lights and came back, the tree had fallen over and my sister had stolen all the candy canes from the tree. lol!
another time, my 5yr old sister was opening her presents and she exclaimed, santa stole the wrapping paper from my craft box! Me and my parents burst into peals of laughter.
Christmas is my favourite time of year too!
One year, all my sister and I wanted were bikes. We opened all our presents under the tree and sadly, there were no bikes. We were so upset. But then we found a note tucked into a tree branch. It was from Santa (aka Mum and Dad)! It said something like “Go look outside for something purple and something green” which are our favourite colours. We raced t the back door and outside were two brand new bikes! We were so excited. It was great.
Another memory of Christmas I have is when our fridge broke on Christmas Eve! We had to eat everything in the fridge, because it’s go off since we had no way of keeping it cold.
I remember going to look at Christmas lights and making rum balls + apricot balls with Mum, my sister and Grandma. It’s the little traditions like that, that make Christmas really special!
A good memory I still have is when me and my brother were still really young and believing in Santa but beginning to question why people sometimes say hes really not real. For about 3 years in a row my brother and I were determined to catch him red handed. We would pretend we were going to sleep and ly in bed for an hour or two. Finally we would get up and quietly creep up the stairs only able to see from the lights shining off the christmas tree. We would sit there on the second top stair with our faces poking over the top stair. We would sit there so quietly and just wait.No matter how long we would wait it out we would always fall asleep and decide to go back to our beds and wait a bit longer. Then we would suddenly wake up in a panic and quickly tip toe back up stairs only to see somehow “Santa” had snuck in, left all these gifts, ate all the cookies and drink the milk we had left.
When we realized of course Santas not real its our parents we for some reason still couldnt catch them, and my mom would not admit it was them for years! It drove me crazy since I was so much older and knew! When she finally did admit it, I almost wished that she shouldnt have.
So thats my great memory, my parents doing everything they could to keep my childhood and the idea of Santa alive.
My favorite memory actually occurred last Christmas.
We waited 14 years to buy the house we wanted. So, we told our children (now 13, 14, 16), years ago, when we buy a our home we would get a dog. Well, they hadn’t forgot but it wasn’t too hard to put it off. At the time I felt that if a dog didn’t shed and they could wear diaper, I was ok with it. I had been afraid of dogs for years (another story).
Well, we decided last year we would get a puppy for the children for Christmas. We told them Christmas eve morning that we needed to go pick up one more gift and we would be right back. When we got back we had them close their eyes and when they opened them, we said “Merry Christmas” and it was dead silence! They didn’t make a sound! Finally our daughter spoke and asked “Is that ours?” I said, “Now would I let a dog in our house if it wasn’t?” Then they all squealed with delight! Now, almost a year later, our puppy, Cornbread, is a wonderful addition to our family.
The best Christmas ever was the one when I bought a tool chest for my husband, the Craftsman he has always wanted and never thought he would get. It was so large it was impossible to wrap so I kept it at the grandparent’s house (2 blocks over). Then after all the gifts were opened I pointed out a piece of paper with glitter writing on it in the middle of the tree itself (that was where he would always hide my little special “expensive” gifts when we first got married, kind of a tradition). He went over and picked it out and there were instructions to follow. You should have seen his eyes light up. And so began the scavenger hunt. With clues that came from the song “12 days of Christmas” he started slow and then got faster and faster until the last clue when he was sprinting to his Grandmothers house to find his beloved tool chest. We kept the cards that showed the path he followed and the clues that he solved. It was one of the best memories ever.
To make it so special for someone else.. And later for him to say that it was not even about the tool chest, it was more about the time and effort to make it so fun and meaningful for him. He whispered in my ear I’ll never forget it, thank you. He also did the 12 days of Christmas for me , a little surprise gift each day starting 12 days before Christmas. and he made his own verses to tie it all together. ex. “On the 1st day of Christmas my true love gave to me a little tiny Christmas tree.” was the card that I found in my car on my way to work and then on my desk there it was a little Christmas tree.. and so on.. it was great!!!
Thanks for letting me share.. Great Memories…
